Gayatri Mantra – गायत्री मंत्र

The Gayatri Mantra is  a very powerful and popular mantra of the VEDAS. It is also known as Savitri or Guru or Maha Mantra. Apart from Atharva Veda it is found in all three other  VEDAS. This mantra is known to be the protector of life. The Gayatri mantra is also known as VED Mata (mother of knowledge).

Om bhur-bhuvah swah

Tat savitur varenyam 

Bhargo devasya dhimahi

Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat

Meaning of the words in The GAYATRI MANTRA

Om- GOD

Bhur– supporter of life

Bhuvah- destroyer of afflictions/sufferings

Swah– giver of happiness

Tat– that

Savitur- creator/producer/manifester

Varenyam–  most adorable /adoptable/worthy of being sought

Bhargo– free from calamity,without sin,pure

Devasya– supreme,the greatest

Dheemahi– meditate

Dhiyo– the intellect,mind

Yo– who (GOD)

Nah– our,of us

Prachodayat– guideto good deeds,inspire, awaken,energize

‘O God, the Giver of life, Remover of pains and sorrows, Bestower of happiness and  Creator of the Universe, You are most luminous, pure and adorable. We meditate on You. May You inspire and guide our intellect in the right direction.
